Summer Camp with Sellen and the AGC
Over the summer, Sellen partnered with the Associated General Contractors (AGC) Education Foundation to host a summer camp introducing the field of construction management to high school juniors and seniors.
The free program, designed to promote diversity of all kinds within the industry, was free of charge. Students from all over the Puget Sound area were nominated by their teachers and selected to attend. During the camp, students had a chance to speak with current construction management students, as well as Sellen employees.
The week kicked off at the University of Washington with a safety talk and was followed by a trip to several of Sellen’s most innovative job sites.
The goal of the program, which is still in its early days, is to expand to additional locations in future years. The Sellen Community Foundation is a sponsor of the program, providing initial support with the hopes of inviting industry partners to grow with the program as it expands.
“Most of the students were completely unaware of construction management as a degree and career option at the beginning of the week, and many are now eager to join the industry,” said Jen Holm, AGC Program Manager. “Thanks to Sellen for inspiring it all and partnering with us in making meaningful programs possible.”
