Making Salmon-Safe

In 2016, Sellen worked with the Salmon-Safe organization to achieve a Salmon-Safe accreditation. The Portland-based non-profit’s mission is to transform land management practices to allow salmon to thrive in West Coast watersheds.

Achieving the accreditation recognizes that Sellen achieved zero sediment runoff as a result of our water quality protection practices during construction. To reach this milestone, three project sites were independently assessed to validate how well Sellen implemented construction activity pollution prevention on our projects.

Each site performed excellently, putting the skill of Sellen’s crews on full display with expert spill prevention, clean soil excavation and a creative approach to water management. Sellen now joins the ranks of other local leaders, such as Vulcan and the University of Washington, to prevent harmful pollutants from reaching the water that salmon depend on for survival.
