Sellen Receives 2018 Community Impact Award
Sellen was recently honored by Seattle Business Magazine at the 2018 Community Impact Awards, where we received the Silver Award for Job Training! The award recognized our support for regional pre-apprenticeship programs like PACE, ANEW and the Regional Pre-Apprenticeship program. Both in Seattle and nationwide, there is a widening gap between the availability of skilled workers and the growing needs of the construction market. These pre-apprenticeship programs serve students from King, Pierce, Snohomish and Kitsap counties and concentrates on students of color, women, immigrants and the formerly incarcerated.
Sellen’s support enabled pre-apprenticeship students to receive full OSHA 10 safety certification at no cost to their programs. This training improves their candidacy and entry chances within their selected apprenticeship programs and fields. Our support for these programs has also allowed for better equipment, enhanced training, safety gear and tours for students, helping the programs move toward their goal of improving graduation rates and increasing capacity.
We are honored to receive the award and excited to continue our commitment in this vital area, improving access to family wage jobs in our industry to more of the people in our community.
