National Apprentice Week 2017: John Burwell
We will be highlighting a different apprentice each day for National Apprentice Week 2017. Today’s apprentice: John Burwell, an ironworker apprentice. John joined Sellen in 2014.
What drew you to the construction industry?
I was living in Missoula, Montana and was having a hard time finding work. I drove west looking for career opportunities and ended up here.
Do you have any mentors you look up to?
Troy Bertch, Randy Young and Darryl Peacock. They have each taught me a lot about welding, rigging and ornamental iron.
What inspires you to be at your best every day?
I want to build a good name and a good reputation for myself. I take a lot of pride in the work we do.
What’s the best part of your job?
I just love hanging iron. I’ve had a chance to work on some really cool projects, like Swedish Edmonds. It’s a lot of fun.
