A Home for the Next Generation

With its striking two-story windows, an iridescent blue entryway, and a dramatic wood sculpture, Urban Union is hard to miss in South Lake Union. One of the newest buildings to grace Seattle’s burgeoning neighborhood, Urban Union – recently renamed Amelia by its new tenant – is a 12-story, 290,000-square-foot office building created for today’s generation of workers.

CollinsWoerman designed the space to be a welcoming, engaging environment that allows people to feel like they are outdoors without actually being outdoors. After entering through a blue, glass “cube” – a nod to the great tradition of glass art in Seattle – visitors are greeted by a two-story sculptural wood wall created from reclaimed lumber. In the lobby, the “union” is a living room type space that offers workers coffee and comfort. The top floor hosts the “outlook,” a rooftop conference center complete with two decks and 360-degree views of Seattle.

Sellen completed the shell and core for the developer Schnitzer West in March 2016. Our team remained on site to finish the tenant improvement space for the new owners, which completed in December of the same year.
