Case Study: MOHAI Achieves LEED Platinum
Sellen’s team targeted LEED Gold certification, but during the summer of 2012 — midway through construction — MOHAI challenged us to achieve Platinum certification. We worked closely with the design team to develop strategies to reach this new goal without increasing the budget.
Through innovation and collaboration, we met our goal. Key sustainable elements of the project include:
- Project plumbing fixtures that reduced water consumption by 44% over existing standards.
- Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Certified wood material for 81% of the project’s wood.
- Achieved more than 97% waste diversion rate of construction and demolition materials.
- Recycled and salvaged more than 1,538 tons of material and 1,646 lineal feet of historical wood base.
