Cascadian Team Ascends to New Heights with Tower Crane
Our team at the Cascadian project recently celebrated an exciting milestone as a new tower crane launched the next phase for the sustainable development. Sellen is partnering with architect Perkins&Will, Costigan Integrated and Unico Properties on the 220,000-square-foot office development in South Lake Union’s Cascade Neighborhood.
After completing shoring and excavation at the end of 2019, the team is ready to begin framing the building’s unique design that cuts into the slope of the site. Pedestrians walking on Yale Avenue will access the building through the first floor, while those traveling on Eastlake Avenue will enter the building on the third floor.
Cascadian’s design incorporates a number of sustainability features including outdoor spaces and several green spaces at street-level. The 7,300-square-foot rooftop terrace will have a canopy that functions as both an architectural feature and solar panel system. Transparent photovoltaic (PV) glass will be added to the canopy to capture sunlight and transform it into electricity. The 92 kW system will offset 8% of the total energy use of the proposed building design. The building is also seeking LEED® Platinum pre-certification and Salmon-Safe certification.
Congratulations to the project team on their hard work and progress!
