Building Futures: Rainier Prep Explores Construction Careers with Sellen
Earlier this spring, Sellen was proud to welcome eighth-grade students from Rainier Prep to our Bellevue 600 office for a special career exploration event focused on the construction industry. This was the second year we’ve hosted Rainier Prep students, and we were excited to build on the success of last year’s event by bringing back popular activities and introducing a few new ones, including more interactive presentations and fresh faces from across our team.
Rainier Prep is a public charter school in South Seattle whose mission is to prepare all students to excel at four-year colleges and become leaders in their communities by empowering lifelong learners, changemakers, and advocates. By partnering with local companies like Sellen, Rainier Prep gives students the chance to see what careers in different industries look like and what it takes to get there.
Our team introduced the students to a range of construction career paths, from the trades to project management, estimating, design, and more. Although we couldn’t take them on the job site due to age restrictions, students were able to view our Bellevue 600 project from the job office and learn how it’s being built from the ground up.
One of the highlights of the day was the hands-on trade skills session, where students learned about different tools, techniques, and the craftsmanship that goes into every project. Our goal was to show them that whether or not they choose the traditional college route, there are many paths to a successful, fulfilling career in construction.
Thank you to Rainier Prep for their continued partnership and to everyone at Sellen who helped bring this inspiring day to life!
