Memorial Stadium Construction Updates
SPU SEWER REPLACEMENT
- Work to replace a SPU sewer main that runs under Memorial Stadium is projected to start in mid-September.
- This work is a requirement of SPU as part of the Memorial Stadium project. It will be performed by Sellen under the project management of SPU.
- Starting September 8th, Republican St will be closed while crews excavate and bore for the new sewer main.
- Deliveries to the Exhibition Hall, McCaw Hall, and Opera loading docks need to reroute to Mercer St and 4th Ave N.
- The 401 Mercer (formerly KCTS) loading dock access will be split between Republican and 4th Ave; for deliveries to the Seattle Center Warehouse (east dock), access is from 5th/Republican. For access to the west dock, access is from 4th/Mercer.
CONSTRUCTION ACCESS AND DELIVERIES
- Personnel access points are at the NE (Republican) and SW Harrison) corners.
- Vehicle access points are at the NW (service yard) and NE (Republican) gates.
- Construction vehicle traffic will shift to the north side of the SPS parking lot September through February to accommodate sewer line replacement work. Sellen will have flaggers in place to control construction and public access.
INSTALLATION OF PERIMETER HARD BARRIERS ON EAST OF INTERNATIONAL FOUNTAIN
- A temporary perimeter fence will be installed on the east side of the covered walkway, starting on September 2nd. Pedestrian access will be maintained during this work. The temporary fence is projected to be removed on September 18th.
- Crews will be continue working within fenced exclusion zones installing hard barriers on the South and West sides of the site.
- Forklift traffic in public space is expected through the East SPS parking lot to shuttle materials. Forklift
traffic from the SPS lot to the hard barriers on the West will take place during construction hours (6:00
AM – 2:30 PM) from September 2nd to September 19th.
STRUCTURAL DEMOLITION OF EAST, SOUTH GRANDSTANDS AND NORTH GRANDSTANDS
- Harrison St will remain closed from MoPOP to the Armory until Bumbershoot and again afterward until demolition is complete.
- Detours to the South along Thomas St are in place. Timing below.
- 7/29-8/28 HARRISON ST CLOSED.
- 8/29-8/31 HARRISON ST TO REOPEN FOR BUMBERSHOOT.
- 9/2-9/16 HARRISON ST CLOSURE WILL GO BACK INTO EFFECT.
- 9/17 HARRISON ST WILL REOPEN
- Artists At Play will remain open throughout grandstand demolition.
- Temporary Road Closures for Seattle Center / McCaw Hall service road during north grandstand demo detailed under CONSTRUCTION ACCESS AND DELIVERIES.

Sellen is partnering with Seattle Center, Seattle Public Schools, MSR, and Generator Studios to redevelop
Memorial Stadium for a capacity of 8,000 attendees. The facility will feature four equal-sized locker
rooms, covered stands, ticket booths, team training facilities, dedicated spaces for officials and coaches,
concession areas, restrooms, first aid and guest services, a synthetic turf field with cork infill, a press box and coaches’ booth, city shop and warehouse space, and restoration of the Memorial Wall.
